Frequently asked questions

How CLVA ratings work, in plain English.

Questions about CLVA.

How the ratings work, what the numbers mean and what you get for free.

What are CLVA Power Ratings?

CLVA Power Ratings put every team we cover on one scale, built from results and the quality of chances each team creates and allows (xG). In football 50 is an average team and every 10 points is worth about half a goal a game, so you can compare any two teams in our 11 European leagues directly. NFL teams are rated around 100, and horses are rated in pounds.

What do the win chances mean?

Each fixture shows a home, draw and away chance from the two teams' ratings, with home advantage included. A 60% home chance means that, over many matches like it, the home side would win about six in ten. They are chances, not certainties, and the three always add up to 100%.

What does BTTS mean?

BTTS stands for both teams to score: a match where each side scores at least one goal. Our trends page shows how often that happens in every league this season.

What do Over 2.5 goals and 3+ goals mean?

They mean the same thing: a match with three or more goals in total. "Over 2.5" is the usual way of writing it, because no match can finish with half a goal. Our 3+ goals chance is worked out from the expected total goals in the match.

How often are the ratings updated?

Football fixtures, win chances and expected goals are updated every day, and team ratings move each week as new results come in. NFL ratings update weekly and racing ratings update daily.
